For what reasons is a root canal necessary?
When the nerve of a tooth becomes permanently inflamed or dies, due to decay, trauma, root resorption, or a deep crack, it will need root canal treatment to eliminate pain and a possible infection. The nerve chamber and canals are entered from the top of the tooth, they are cleaned, shaped, disinfected, and filled with a rubber like material to seal the roots off from bacteria. Then a filling or a crown will be put on the tooth to protect it.
Dr. Rask performs routine, non-surgical root canals and also some retreatment. Complex cases may be referred to an endodontist.
