Here is a little blurb from my winter newsletter: If your New Year’s resolution consists of trying to lose some of those holiday pounds, be aware that some diets may have a negative effect on your oral health. Juicing or fruit diets have a lot of sugar and acid which are bad for your teeth by causing staining and erosion of the enamel. Diet pills can cause dry mouth, which leads to an increased risk of tooth decay. Low carb diets may cause bad breath and even acid build up in the blood, called ketoacidosis. Low calorie diets, if too extreme, can cause malnutrition leading to an increased chance of periodontal disease or cavities. Finally, if your diet requires you to eat small snacks frequently, instead of larger meals, make sure you are drinking plenty of water to wash away food particles and stay hydrated.
From November 2nd through the 11th, you can sell your unwanted or leftover Halloween candy to our dental office for $2 per pound. Your candy will then be donated to Operation Gratitude and sent in care packages to US troops who are overseas. We will also be giving out hygiene goody bags to kids who sell back their candy. Our goal is to raise 50 pounds of candy to donate. It is a great way for your kids to earn a little extra cash and hopefully prevent them from getting cavities! We are also still holding our diaper drive for the Junior League of Boca Raton Diaper Bank for the next two weeks, and if you bring in a box of diapers, you have a chance to win a free Zoom one hour teeth whitening. Thanks for your participation in our community efforts!
Below is information and a link to a raffle currently being offered from Moroco Orthodontics, a very well-respected practice here in Boca Raton. They are raising money for the Junior League of Boca Raton by raffling off one comprehensive orthodontic treatment that includes pre-treatment work-up, full set of braces, and follow-up retainers valued at $6,000. There will only be 100 tickets sold in order to give everyone a fair chance at winning! If anyone you know is interested in braces or braces for their child, this is a great opportunity. Also, if you know of anyone affiliated with any local schools, please forward this to them. Thank you in advance! Brian Rask, DMD
I know there are a lot of kids with left over or unwanted Halloween candy out there, so why not turn it into some cash and benefit our service men and women! Bring in your candy to my office and I will pay you $1.50 per pound and then I will donate it to America’s Moms for Soldiers to send to our troops. Our Halloween Candy Buyback will only run through Thursday, so don’t delay. I will also be giving out toys and hygiene goodies to kids that donate!

Come to Paragon Theaters for a showing of the movie Lone Suvivor to raise money for the James Suh Memorial Scholarship, which benefits senior students at Deerfield Beach High School. It is awarded to seniors based on GPA, difficulty of classes, community service, extracurricular activities, and interst in serving in the military. The event will start at 6pm on Wednesday, January 15th with a 50/50 drawing, wine wagon raffle and a silent auction. The theater has a bar and serves food, if you want to arrive early and hang out. The movie will begin at 7pm and tickets are $15. The theater is located on Hillsboro Blvd just west of Powerline Road in Deerfield Beach. Check out the movie trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/
